The Wage Gap: Where have we been, where are we now and where are we going?

By: Ms. MoneyGrrl

(continued, page 3)

Sites devoted to women's issues like www.women.com, www.ivillage.com include great Career Channels with tons of invaluable information on. I also discovered www.wageweb.com, a unique site that gives you a peak into the average income of others in your field. The Internet is full of resources, so don't be afraid to use it and learn from it.

What can I do to narrow the wage gap?

  • Know what I'm worth.
  • Be courageous and ask for it.
  • Remind those stuffy suit wearing management types that they are paying me to count beans and nothing else!! It makes not difference whether I am single, married, childless, a parent, a dyke, straight, bi, granola, femme, andro, or whatever.

If you want to learn more about the wage gap check out Working Woman Magazine's 20th Annual Salary Survey available online at http://www.workingwoman.com/salary/

Until next time, keeping narrowing that wage gap and Happy New Year!!
